Introducing Man OWar 2 is a singular pleasure for me as destroyers have long been numbered among my favorite ship classes. This is particularly true of the V Ws. Born out of WWI experience, they differed from their predecessors primarily as regards increased sizes and offensive arma¬ment. Technically speaking, they were not particularly in¬novative, though their forecastle break and super-firing guns, which every other major navy copied, set the stan¬dard for destroyer design for the next twenty years. There is no doubt but that they were sturdy, well-founded vessels. Other than the American four-stackers, they were the only destroyers of WWI vintage to see action in WWII practically as a complete class.
