This work resumes and continues the work of the "Realenzyklopadie fur die Protestantische Theologie und Kirche" (3rd ed ), but with an ecumenical perspective surveying the entire Christian faith. Since completion of the above volume, important changes in scholarly thought, both in increased awareness of method and in evaluation of the objects of research, have necessitated a fresh, comprehensive representation of theological knowledge, representative of the entire scope of theological scholarship during the last half of the 20th century. The TRE unifies a wide variety of theological disciplines and methodologies to provide a unified examination of the entire spectrum of Christian theology, past and present.
