This paper discusses current efforts to standardize
the two major Andean languages: Quechua and Aymara. The difficulties
in gaining consensus on standardizing phonology, grammar, and lexicon
are highlighted. Specific recommendations are offered on how to deal
with neologisms, and a proposal is made for the creation of a pan-Andean entity to resolve the issue of standardization. (JL)
