"Why did God make me and "Why doesn't anyone want us as friends?" these two questions, addressed to the author by people with cognitive impairments, serve as the starting point for a search through history, the Bible, ecclesial texts and catechesis programs, to see how intellectual disability is perceived. The difficulty of making friends with people of all abilities is conditioned by our perception of disability. Assuming that this perception is partly determined by our religious conceptions, in particular our understanding of so-called "Adamic perfection", the author seeks a theologically and pastorally appropriate response to the two questions questions. By engaging the conversation between theologies of disability with catechesis in France, she opens up new perspectives that transform anthropological representations of the Christian faith, enabling a catechesis that levels the pathway to friendships beyond the barriers of disability-prejudice.
