The doctrine of spranationalism has been most evident in Europe, but has increasingly become a global tour de force. The European union is regarded as the first supranational regional regime (SRR). This work argues that as the EU is evolves as a prominent global player, it seems to have become an inspiration and a model for the proliferartion of other SRRs and proto-SRRs. It examines the notion that as SSRs aquire greater power relative to "traditional" global players, such as nation states, a further state of development has ensued: the creation of supranational global regimes (SGRs) such as the United Nations and the World Trade Organization.
