There has been a worldwide boom of refeudalisation: Billionaires are becoming presidents of states, luxury consumption is rising just as dramatically as social inequalities, and a culture of political and socio-economic isolation is emerging. In Latin America, this tendency is also linked to a striking shift to the right in the political sphere, which - symbolized by the rise of white, rich men - increasingly defames indigenous people, the poor and feminists. Olaf Kaltmeier's Refeudalisation Hypothesis provides a coherent framework for interpreting the phenomena of social change that we are experiencing globally in the early 21st century and that are taking on very specific regional forms of expression in Latin America.
