The history of film and video loops is at the same time a history of the mutual influence of artistic experiments, technical capabilities and the development of the history of exhibitions. Franziska Stöhr's comprehensive study analyzes decisive exhibitions such as »Information« (MoMA, New York, 1970), »Prospect 71: Projection« (Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, 1971) and »documenta 5-10« (1972-1997), with examples of works from artists such as Bruce Nauman, Dennis Oppenheim, Paul Sharits or Bill Viola. In addition, with the example of Teresa Hubbard/Alexander Birchler, Stan Douglas and Björn Melhus, a comprehensive typology of artistic strategies in film and video loops is developed.
