Two years after the "summer of refugees" in 2015 many refugees have "arrived" in Germany. In some areas citizens voiced uneasiness against the accommodating of refugees in their cities and towns - but why do refugees often face rejection within their new neighborhoods? The authors of this book approach that issue for Thuringia, exploring the question when processes of getting to know each other, as they are common in cities as meeting sites of strangers, fail and turn into racism and right-wing extremism. They enrich the discourse about "city and violence" as well as the research on the social function of the concept of the "good neighbor".
