European human rights law is a body of law which has emerged from the provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights. Besides the Convention, its sources also encompass the soft-law of the Council of Europe and, recently, the ever growing practice of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. However, the most significant and by far the most abundant among its sources is the case law of the European Court of Human Rights, seated in Strasbourg. The jurisprudence of the Court constitutes the core substance of this volume. Written for students and practitioners, its principal purpose is to supply basic introductory information on European human rights law, as developed by the Court in Strasbourg. The stage of development in European human rights law, as well as its importance in everyday life, are evident in the book.
