There are those who believe that only through darkness can you see the light. They believe that through sorrow and pain you come to understand happiness and joy; that without the dark there could be no light. Take, for example, the emotion of happiness, if you were to remove the knowledge of sorrow all you would be left with is contention. Therefore, it can be said that it is the dark that gives meaning to the light and through the years many works have been written to convey that message. Inspired by Dante and the works of Edgar Allan Poe, Only Through Darkness... continues in this vain with a collection of poems and lyrics that explore the darker side of life and the things we wish we could live without. We begin in the darkest recesses of the mind, where thoughts of sorrow, death, and murder reside. From there, we start our slow ascent past visions of Hell and murderous insanity, through moments of loss and grief to questioning religion and the morals we seem to live by. After being consumed by the darkness life has to offer, we come to a place of almost child-like innocence, reminding us of the hopes and aspirations of a better life. These twisted tales are not for the faint of heart, though it ends in a place of light, it begins in places "where no mortal man should go." So, if you are looking for poems of love and romance, this is not for you. This is for those who dare to ask the question, "What darkness lies in the heart of mankind, when his gods and devils become entwined?" And those who are not afraid to find out what can be known... Only through darkness.
