The letters in this volume, written between October 1749 and May 1750, still very much reflect the Gottscheds’ trip to Vienna, where they made many connections and weighed up a number of projects that are mentioned in the letters. While rumors circulated about Gottsched’s conversion to Catholicism, the plan to make Vienna and the royal court their new base failed due to Gottsched refusing to convert on principle.
