Using the example of Italian, French, Catalan and German authors from the fourteenth to the seventeenth centuries, this volume examines acts of poetic self-authorization, which are primarily based on strategies of auctorial "singularization" and "sodalization." The collected case studies outline a poetics of self-authorization as a cross-genre, transnational pattern for justifying literary authority in early modern Europe.
