The study undertakes a systematic narratological analysis of ambivalence in 15^th and 16^th century romances. Rather than focusing on their cultural and historical context, it explores the literary potential and diverse functions of ambivalent narrative, thus providing a different perspective on the narrative strategies of pre-modern texts and their theoretical and methodological understanding.
