Religions require material media in which to communicate the transcendent. In the early modern period, media debates spread as disputes were carried out between the Christian denominations about "reforming" communication with God. This volume uses examples to shine light on religiously based conflicts between media, with media, and in media from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries in the English-, Romance-, and German-speaking worlds.
