"The Republic does not belong to you." On 9 December 2019 Juan Branco opened his speech in the amphitheatre of honour at Polytechnique with these words. Facing the students of the country's most prestigious school, he delivers a masterly lesson on the misuse of the system that has just consecrated them and gives the keys to understanding the purposes of an education system where so-called merit schools are created to reproduce a logic of domination for the benefit of a few. His call to action is a plea for an idea of the Republic, abandoned by their elders. Followed by exchanges with the students, a speech that is addressed to all French people and will be a landmark on a selection system of which they are above all victims.
