Since 1923 the Sammlung Tusculum has published authoritative editions of Greek and Latin works together with a German translation. The original texts are comprehensively annotated, and feature an introductory chapter. In the new volumes, additional essays delve into specific aspects of the works, illuminating their historical context and reception to the present day. Als Werk des großen Aristoteles ist eine Schrift Peri Kosmou (De mundo) überliefert, die das Wissen der klassischen Antike über Kosmologie, Geographie, Meteorologie und weitere Teile der Naturkunde, aber auch über die Rolle der Gottheit in der und für die Welt zusammenfasst. Im 2. Jahrhundert n. Chr. hat der heute vor allem als Autor des Romans Der goldene Esel bekannte Philosoph das Werk frei ins Lateinische übertragen und dabei für eine römische Leserschaft angepasst. Eine deutsche Übersetzung von Apuleius’ De mundo fehlte bisher. Der vorliegende Band macht nun beide Werke erstmals zweisprachig zugänglich und erschließt ihre Bedeutung für die antike Kultur.
