Knowledge of the geometrical theory of diffraction ( GTD) is best accomplished
in two steps. On first looking into the subject we should accept the principal results
and concepts, properly understand their various parameters, and apply the methods
to a wide variety of problems-this, roughly, is the way we first approach network
theory. Once this has been accomplished, the asymptotic methods used to piece
together the GTD coefficients can be studied through the many scholarly works
available in engineering and mathematical journals. This text has been written to
provide a means of achieving the first step.
