A GENERAL THEORY OF WORK, DIFFERENTIAL PAYMENT AND INDIVIDUAL PROGRESS BY ELLIOTT JAQUES
This book is a revised edition of Equitable Payment•.
The most important change is the removal of part of chapter V and the whole of chapter VI from the first edition, and the substitution of chapters 3 to 8 from the Time-Span Handbookt. These new chapters have been combined into one to form chapter 5 of this book. The effect of this change is to introduce a simplified description of the technique of time-span measurement, that was developed after Equitable Payment was published. Readers who wish to have a fuller description of time-span measurement, with examples, are referred to the Tune-Span Handbook.
Some changes have also been made in the formulation of the earnings progression curves. In particular, it will be found that Standard Earnings Progressions (SEPs) are now referred to by the more accurate designation of capacity growth curves. The 1963 revision o f the data sheets which carry these capacity growth curves, has been used in this edition in place of the earlier data sheet. The reasons for this revision, and a more detailed description of the use of these data sheets, will be found in the Progression Handbook t.
It may be of interest to note that time-span measurement, the equitable payment distribution, and the capacity growth curves, have now been tested independently in many countries. The results have been uniformly to support the UK findings. The evidence is strong that the findings derive from certain universal human characteristics.
