ishtar/Asherah/Ashteroth/queen of heaven was a heathen idol goddess, worshipped in ancient Mesopotamia (babylon). Her cult worship involved licentious sexual rites, debauchery, temple prostitution and bloody (human and animal) sacrifices. The Royals and elites were often the main patrons of the ishtar cult e.g queen jezebel of the Sidonians who served as High priestess for the cult.
