War leaves little of value in its wake. Foremost among its meager gifts is the bond of friendship between men, forged in adversity and tempered by the loss and sting of battle. It is ironic that the worst of man's endeavors should yield one of humanity's purest products.
Over 2.7 million men and women served in Viet Nam. For most of them, service in that conflict was a bittersweet experience. They have fond memories of the strong bonds of friendship they shared and are embittered by the loss of friends and the rejection they experienced when they returned home. 'Welcome Home' explores all of these emotions in a humorous and poignant story that showcases the often-untold story of the bond and affection men share with each other.
Most books and movies about Vietnam veterans portray them as unstable misfits, unable or unwilling to adjust to life after combat. ('Born on the 4th of July', 'Apocalypse Now', 'The Deer Hunter') Although our country has recently come to appreciate the sacrifice these men made in that war, the feelings of many Viet Nam vets remain guarded. The country and those veterans are now hungry for a long overdue and fresh examination of the sacrifices and contributions they made. 'Welcome Home' gives voice to those reluctant to expose their true feelings about their service during that difficult period.
