The present work is a survey of the Scandinavian personal names found in medieval records and as the first elements of place-names in Norfolk. The period covered extends from the tenth to the mid-thirteenth century. A wide range of published and unpublished sources has been excerpted. A brief introduction is followed by a comprehensive bibliography and by a corpus of name-forms. Each entry in the corpus is accompanied by a full commentary with bibliographical information and comparative material from elsewhere in England.
The material is an important primary source for any discussion of the Scandinavian settlement of East Anglia, and it allows comparisons to be made with the other areas of Scandinavian settlement in England.
