Travis picking is an American style of finger-picking popularized by Merle Travis in the 1940s and 50s. It's roots trace back much earlier with our earliest recordings of the alternating-bass finger-picking style emanating from the southeastern United States in the 1920s.
The four basic Travis Picking patterns may be altered in a seemingly endless variety of ways and are easily adapted to many different types of music. Most of today's popular folk, country, and rock artists often use the Travis Pick to accompany their songs.
