Since 1953 Russian nationalism became one of the influential political and cultural strains in the USSR. Examines what he calls the "Russian party" in the USSR - a constellation of various organizations, factions, groups, etc., beginning from the nationalist wing in the CPSU and the Komsomol leadership through nationalist groups amongst the writers, artists, filmmakers, etc. to the illegal anti-communist nationalist organizations. Antisemitism played a prominent role in their ideologies. In the late 1960s-early 1970s, when these nationalist groups began to find a common language, there were, paradoxically, only two principles that could unite them: an abstract "love for Russia" and antisemitism. The "Russian party" produced its own antisemitic myth, which found a voice in two works of fiction: "Yellow Metal" by V. Ivanov (1956) and "Plant Louse" by I. Shevtsov (1963). This myth included belief in "Jewish wives" of the top Soviet leaders, that the Jews did not fight in World War II, that they poisoned Stalin, etc. In the late 1960s, the myth of Jewish revolutionaries was added, and in the 1980s - the myth of the Jewish world conspiracy. Dwells on the "anti-Zionist" groups of the 1970s-80s and on antisemitism of the nationalist faction in the Russian Church. Contends that the narrative of the "Russian party" failed to find a positive response among the majority of the Russians.
