Jamshīd Ghiyāth al-Dīn al-Kāshī (fl.1420), a native of central Iran, worked at the Samarqand observatory of Sultan Ulugh Beg, grandson of Tamerlane. Kāshī is best known as a virtuoso of computational athematics, but he was also a competent astronomer. Among his major works is the 'Zīj-i Khāqānī', an astronomical handbook written in Persian. The 'zīj' contains a list giving the latitudes and longitudes of some 515 places, mostly cities, the subject of this paper.
