Korean writing in mixed script is the kind of writing in which native words are written alphabetically in the Korean alphabet (Han’gŭl) and words of Chinese origin (Sino-Korean words) are written in their original Chinese characters. This Reader is an introduction to mixed script writing, and is intended for students who have at least the basics of Korean phonology, grammar and Han’gŭl orthography. Some 1,180 Chinese Characters are introduced in the Reader, nearly all of them selected from the list of characters mandated for instruction in the schools by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea.
