IWGIA has published over the years on developments in Hawaiʻi, with pieces by some of the contributors to the present document. This is the first full fledged attempt to present the Hawaiian situation to the international community. It covers both the history of Hawaiʻi, the general situation today and a number of case studies documenting but a few of the many struggles that are taking place. This Document is a tribute to the energy and dedication of a people who set an example for the rest of the world, who have taken themselves from a stigmatized limbo to a position where they have to be reckoned with and where, even among their former enemies an increasing respect is becoming evident.
