Travel to Spain back in 1967:

"Spain continues to be a headline tourist attraction this year. The prestige of this country as a favorite holiday haunt continues to rise from year to year.
The Pyrenees are without doubt the most dramatic frontier of Western Europe. When you have crossed them, you are in a truly different world. If an utter change of setting is one of your yardsticks for a successful holiday, Spain should be your choice. It has sturdily preserved the authenticity of its culture and the originality of its way of life; as a result, its attractions for the visitor remain unspoiled.
Spain is still one of the cheaper countries to travel in—an all-important consideration in these days of mass travel. The State Tourist Department exerts strong control over the hotel and restaurant industry to prevent inflationary charges, and a rapidly increasing chain of paradores and albergues managed by the Spanish State Tourist Department also facilitates travel for motorists in Spain’s remoter areas. A wealth of new hotel construction also has substantially increased the facilities of the Costa Brava, the Balearic and the Canary islands, and the Costa del Sol. Also, a new major tourist beach area has developed on the Costa Blanca, around Alicante.
But perhaps the main attraction of travel in Spain is the all-pervading presence of Spain’s national style and folklore. Vestiges of its glorious past and the manifestations of its dynamic present are on display at every turn. In most Western European countries, the traveler has to dig for genuine folklore. He will encounter it in Spain without effort." (from the FOREWORD)
