About the Author
Professor Beach holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Arkansas. He was awarded the Ph.D. in Modern European history (specialty, Modern French history) by the University of Illinois in 1950, and he has taught Modern European and French history at the University of Colorado since 1951. Beach served four years as a gunnery officer in the amphibious forces during World War II and participated in D-Day assaults in the Salerno, Anzio, and invasions.
In addition to Charles X of France: His Life and Times, Professor Beach is the author of eighteen articles and other works in professional journals and other publications, His recent publications include 1825: The Decisive Year of Charles X's Reign (University of Colorado Press) and "Charles X, Polignac, and the Application of Article XIV of the Charter," which appeared in The Shaping of Modern France (Macmillan).
The University of Colorado faculty fellowship program and grants from the American Philosophical Society have made possible three extended stays in Europe by Professor Beach. Most recently he spent a year in Paris, where he did research on a book-length work on the Assembly of Notables.
