This early diary by Ignaz Goldhizer, considered to be the founder of Islamology, was written in 1872 and 1874, when Goldhizer was 23. In it, the young Jewish scholar describes his impressions of Turkey, Syria, Egypt, and Palestine, his contacts with Arab scholars, and his reaction to life in the East.
