The relationship between anthropology and human rights has had a development characterized
by conceptual and theoretical clashes. Nevertheless, in everyday practice the interaction between
both fields has been mutually beneficial because of their shared ethical commitments and the
commonality of the interest in the defense and protection of those rights. The text argues that, beyond
philosophical debate, the diverse anthropological disciplines and their basic dedication to the study
of alterity make them ideal instruments to implement effective systems for the protection of human
rights in specific cultural contexts.
