The approach I generally see Architects take toward SOA follows one of two paths in an organization: 1) buy a product and integrate a lot of functionality, or 2) structure a new layer in the enterprise architecture that optimizes the overall enterprise and then set that onto the product set. In addressing the latter, this book provides a fundamental backbone of theory and practice that delivers the tools to assure that you have modeled your services correctly prior to worrying about the product that will carry the implementation. If you are doing a design and will need to defend your approach to the customer, the theory in this book provides an excellent backbone from which to provide an outstanding architecture.
