This short book was produced in 1987 by a subcommittee of the Durban City Council. The first half is a bullet-point timeline for major events in the history of the city of Durban, each described with a short paragraph and a selection of photos. Given the time during which it was written, the book largely revolves around the white settlers of Natal, though the Zulu people are discussed to some extent. The second half of the book details four different architectural walks one can take through the city, drawing upon Brian Kearney's 1984 "Revised Listing of the Important Places and Buildings in Durban." The book details a Central City Walk, a Victoria Embankment Walk, a Grey Street and Upper West Street Walk, and a Point Area Walk. The information provided for architecture of the key buildings on these walks seems more substantial than the brief highlights of history provided in the first half of the book.
