Prefaced by Dale Spender, the essays in the book are divided into three sections: (1) the cultural definition of "woman" and how women see themselves, (2) the meaning and operation of the agencies and ideologies that disenfranchise and inflict violence upon women, and (3) feminist ethics and politics. The anthology covers a broad range of subjects, including female friendship, a feminist worldview, feminist education, lesbian feminism, black feminism and feminism and aging.
