It argues that current society threatens human existence and stifles human fulfillment and development. It then tries to locate and investigate the causes of social problems in the structures of economy, kinship, culture and polity.

Occupy theory applies its concepts to a number of examples from society including advertising and consumerism, sports, wages and welfare, issues of class and the slogans of Occupy movements.
