In 1987, Nirvana was formed by Krist Novoselic and Kurt Cobain in Aberdeen, Washington. They played with a number of drummers and in 1988 recorded their first album, Bleach, in three days for $600. The band toured, backed mainly by college radio. In 1990, they added Dave Grohl as their drummer. Nirvana then signed a deal with DGC Records, released Nevermind in 1991, and the rest is history. Their success came to a sudden end in April 1994 with the suicide of Kurt Cobain. Their music lives on today and is as relevant as ever. Their influence on bands, songwriters, and producers is even stronger now than it was ten years ago. Still, their lyrics stand alone as a unique body of work that will never be repeated.
