Blume's Atlas of Pediatric and Adult EEGs combines Dr. Blume's two classic books, the Atlas of Adult EEG and the Atlas of Pediatric EEG , into a single resource for adult and pediatric epileptologists, neurologists, and neurology trainees. This new, consolidated atlas features substantially more digitally obtained illustrations, offers hundreds of new recordings that demonstrate seizure states, normal phenomena, and artifacts, and expands on ICU bedside monitoring with the four-channel abbreviated recording typically used in the intensive care setting. The authors provide examples of typical waveforms and the expected variances.
A companion website offers the fully searchable text and hundreds of additional EEG recordings with captions. Users can test their knowledge with the caption "off," then click to confirm the correct answer.
Editorial Reviews
"Blume’s Atlas of Pediatric and Adult Electroencephalography is a stellar addition to the armamentarium of EEG atlases currently available and stands out as a comprehensive, valuable teaching tool for the learner at any stage in his or her career. It would be an excellent addition to the references on the bookshelf of a neurology resident, clinical neurophysiology fellow, pediatric neurologist, experienced electroencephalographer, or EEG technologist."
"EEG readers of all skill and experience levels can take away much information from the myriad of learning points presented in this comprehensive, thorough, and timeless atlas, which is a superb accomplishment by the authors and a substantial contribution to the world of EEG."

Description: This book combines Dr. Blume's two earlier works, Atlas of Adult Electroencephalography, 2nd edition (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2002), and Atlas of Pediatric Electroencephalography, 2nd edition (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 1999), into a single resource.
Purpose: The purpose is to "present clinically relevant EEG patterns in the manner in which they appear in clinical practice." The field of EEG needs references to provide exactly what this one does. This atlas has some of the best examples of clinically relevant EEGs of any similar book.
Audience: It is intended for "everyone interested in clinical central neurophysiology." This means any clinician whose practice includes EEG. Dr. Blume is a well respected authority in electroencephalography.
Features: The atlas provides illustrative EEGs of commonly (and uncommonly) encountered EEG patterns in adult and pediatric patients. An introductory chapter covers the basics of EEG and a closing chapter describes recording techniques. The best feature is the chapter format, which uses concise text to list features of EEG findings, followed by many full-page representative examples of these findings. In some cases, multiple examples of the same finding are given. Some EEG examples do not provide full EEG montages as seen clinically, in order to provide a clear illustration of the finding. The online component provides selected examples in JPG and PDF format.
Assessment: This high quality atlas of EEG is a concise reference for all clinicians who interpret EEGs. There are several other EEG atlases, but none is as straightforward with relevant EEG illustrations. The authors were able to combine the previous pediatric and adult EEG atlases well, without adding duplicative text/illustrations. This edition also incorporates aspects of digital EEG and ICU monitoring not included in the previous books.
