Born in a prison and removed from his drug-dependent mother, rejection is all that 7-year-old Alex knows. After being removed from a broken home, Cathy takes Alex in for a few weeks until he is adopted, giving him hope for a new life, a new beginning. When Alex meets his new parents they promise to give him opportunities he never could have dreamed of, as well as a permanent home for Alex to finally have a family of his own. But immediately there are problems and Cathy is devastated to hear Alex's parents will be returning him to care. Alex returns home with Cathy, but holds deep feelings of rejection, which turn into anger and violence. Eventually with Cathy's love and patience, Alex settles in but is soon found another new home. Cathy hopes this second chance will save Alex, but once again he battles with the rejection from his early life which causes violent outbursts, even towards Cathy. By 15 he is expelled from several schools and is stealing for drugs and alcohol. All he needs is love and acceptance but can Cathy save Alex from himself?
