People naturally turn to their religious tradition for ethical guidance. Commandment and moral judgment are deeply imbedded in Judaism as in every major religious tradition. It ought to be easy to give answers but today's religious leaders find themselves increasingly uncertain or misunderstood. This volume contains a collection of essays by Jewish and non-Jewish scholars which investigate the moral dilemmas of our time and analyse why answers are not easy to come by or always acceptable. These essays are drawn from the pages of the CCAR Journal, a scholarly quarterly sponsored by the Central Conference of American Rabbis, which has offered itself as a forum for those who seek clarity and understanding. No attempt has been made to present a single point of view but rather to publish ethical writings of contemporary and critical signifigance.
