Those wanting an introduction to the RSS/Hindutva movement would do better to read Andersen and Damle's earlier book Brotherhood in Saffron, which is a more objective description of the organisation, its ideology and its network.
This book, Messengers of Hindu Nationalism, is more recent but its narrative is more shaped and it becomes even more difficult to extract the data from the story. It is more the RSS view of the world. The book seems also to have been titled The RSS: View to the Inside elsewhere (isbn 9780670089147). However it does cover the recent history of the RSS rise to power, albeit from an RSS hindutva-nationalist point of view.
