As a recent Las Vegas transplant, I was excited to find this book as I am curious about Las Vegas history and in particular, the mysterious (burnt-out shell of a casino) Moulin Rouge. Unfortunately, while some writers "bring history to life," Bracey merely defiles the dead with his lifeless and soulless writing. While Bracey is an academic, that doesn't mean he has to write like one. But he does, and the result is excruciatingly boooooorrrring, when it should be intriguing. Ralph Ellison he ain't. But on the bright side, I borrowed this book from the library as opposed to spending money to buy it.
