of head injury management from antiquity to the present is provided. Modern classifica-
tion of acute head injury, its sequelae and complications is proposed. A special attention is
given to epidemiology of head injury. Biomechanics of head injury is described. Pathogenesis
and pathomorphology of head injury are based upon the concepts of focal and diffuse
cerebral lesions and primary and secondary brain damage. Clinical signs and symptoms of
head injury are covered in detail. Much attention is given to modern diagnostic methods
(CT, MRT, ultrasonic tomography, PET etc.).
