The book The Unnatural History of the Sea by Callum Roberts was very fascinating. It really opened my eyes to the effect we've had on the marine life and the ecosystems of the sea. This resource is not limitless as we once thought and we are now seeing the effects. Many years of research went in to putting this book together, and I found the book to be helpful overall for someone like me who is ignorant of marine history. I felt that Roberts served his purpose of increasing awareness and eliminating years of ignorance of the impact we are having on the sea. Roberts gives a moving account not only of the history of how the sea has changed from the very beginning; but also, hope for restoring the abundance of species once known. He gives critical steps on immediate action to take as a nation to preserve and secure our future and that of the sea. This well-expressed history provides the knowledge needed to prevent our repeating the past, and offers the invitation to leave the oceans better than we found them. I would recommend that everyone read this at least to become familiar with the issues involved.
