Sketches the development and present state of cosmology and recent developments and theories in particle physics suggesting the existence of antimatter

This is a gem of a book. Here, Alfven explains to the non-scientist his assumptions in step by logical step as he goes along. How he does all of this is amazing given that this is a very short book.

Alfven provides a straight forward explanation of both matter and anti-matter masterfully using diagrams without equations to show the properties of both forms of matter and the physical principles by which they interact. Significantly, Dr. Alfven proposes a mechanism that is consistent with experimental evidence regarding quasars that could be interpreted as one mechanism through which the universe recreates itself.

Alfven's conclusions are based upon empirical evidence. Still, they are somewhat controversial today. For that reason, this book might be considered to be a must read for those who are willing to consider alternatives to the origin of the universe if it has one.
