This book is decent...the saving grace for the text is that it comes with working ABAQUS UMAT's (available for free on the book website). The authors' explanation of the theory of plasticity leaves a bit to be desired. It's all there, but the explanations get muddy sometimes. I would suggest the computational inelasticity text by Simo and Hughes as an alternative to this book, unless you are specifically looking for examples of UMAT's. ABAQUS gives few examples and even fewer good examples on how to program a user subroutine, and this book did act as a good reference for me during my graduate studies.
