With over three-quarters of greenhouse gas emissions stemming from the burning of fossil fuels, energy-related policies are crucial to international strategies to combat climate change. This is the third edition of the report which provides a comprehensive listing of new or modified energy policies taken or planned by IEA member countries during 2001 in order to reduce damage to our climate system. It contains an overview of policy trends and initiatives; as well as detailed analysis of the actions taken by 26 IEA member countries and the EU under the following headings: policy processes; fiscal policy; tradable permits; regulatory instruments; and voluntary agreements.
