Human Factors in Practice: Concepts and Applications is written for the practitioner who wishes to learn about human factors, but is more interested in application than theory. The book illustrates the many varied domains in which human factors has been applied as well as showcases current research. All chapters follow a similar structure to ensure consistency throughout the book. The book is organized into three sections. Section I focuses on operator-specific considerations and is comprised of four chapters: Senses in Action, Cognition in Action, Measuring Human Performance in the Field, and Situation Awareness in Sociotechnical Systems. Section II addresses system and environmental considerations and is comprised of four chapters: Automation in Sociotechnical Systems, User-Centered Design in Practice, Workspace Design, and Training Design. Section III focuses on putting human factors into practice and contains one chapter, Looking Ahead: Human Factors in Sociotechnical Systems.
