Zbornik povzetkov simpozija. 2013. — 16-17 str.The contribution offers a synchronic and diachronic analysis of Proto-Slavic first regressive palatalization of velars (more commonly known as the first palatalization) and Proto-Slavic simplification of consonat clusters *kj, *gj, *xj, focusing on the function of these phonetic changes in the morphological systems of Proto-Slavic and Slovene. The question is asked whether the synchronic phonetic alternations k, g, x vs. č, ž, š, which arose from the mentioned phonetic changes, are motivated phonetically or morphologically.
