Ebook: The Wise Mother: The Image of St. Anne Teaching the Virgin Mary

that this image should be associated with female literacy, and specifically with the role of mothers as teachers of their daughters. I suggest that representations of women with books in medieval art have been overlooked, so that their implication for female literacy has been neglected.
