In the introductory part Sherpa phonology, morphology, and orthography have been introduced briefly. The Sherpa sound system, word building processes, their entry in the dictionary, scripts and writing systems in different scripts (Sambhota, Roman, and Devanagari) have been described in this part. This part is useful for basic linguistic knowledge of the language. However, for general reading one can skip the introductory part or directly go to any other part as per requirement.
In the Sherpa-English-Nepali Dictionary, about 4,000 entries are listed according to Sherpa alphabetical order indicated in given introductory part. The head word appears in Sambhota script followed by phonemic transcription by using International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) symbols; transliteration convention in Roman and Devanagari scripts are given; the parts of speech is mentioned in both English and Nepali; and then the meaning of the word is translated in English and Nepali languages. The Sambhota script is presented according to Traditional Tibetan writing convention and the Roman and Devanagari transliteration is based on the conventions that have been used in publications till the date and nearest to the Sherpa phonology and oral pronunciation of the word. At least three regional varieties (Khumbu, Western, and Eastern); honorific registers; volitional and non-volitional sub categories of the main verbs have been marked in the entry.
