Most of the new methods are suitable for very high outputs only and cannot be installed by small producers. This article describes a process where oxygen-free copper wire rod is cast vertically upwards through a number of individual graphite dies. Based on the experience gained by Outokumpu Oy of Finland, the method is flexible enough to be used on a wide capacity range starting from very moderate outputs.
